Karen McDougall is a Senior Healthcare Executive with a record of progressive leadership in health care management, and broad experience in national, provincial and academic environments. She has worked in several areas along the continuum of care with a proven track record in establishing and building strong relationships with patients, clients, and medical and allied health professionals.
Ms. McDougall operates effectively at the corporate level, and has been successful in building corporate and ethical cultures, as well as coaching, mentoring and training executive, financial, operational and marketing teams. She is entrepreneurial in spirit and well versed in government policy and regulations. Karen is goal-oriented and a strategic thinker with repeated success in building profitable solutions and corporate growth through continuous quality improvements.
During her career, Karen was appointed to a Management Consulting Team by the Federal Minister of Industry; appointed as an External Health Care Consultant by the Nova Scotia Minister of Health to assess risks in provincial nursing homes; and for over 10 years surveyed hospitals, nursing homes, home care facilities and regional health boards throughout Canada for Accrediation Canada. She has also taught in the Master of Health Services Administration program at Dalhousie University and the Gerontology Program at Mount Saint Vincent University. In her position as COO at Shannex Health Care Management, Karen directed the first Accreditation of the entire Shannex Home Care Division.
Ms. McDougall holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Master of Health Services Administration from Dalhousie University, a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary's University and is a Registered Nurse graduate from the Halifax Infirmary. She also holds a certificate in Quality Management and Continuous Quality Improvements from the Canadian Hospital Association. Karen has been a Board Member at Mount Saint Vincent University, the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, Health Association Nova Scotia and Atlantic Corporation Ltd. She was honoured to receive the Lieutenant Governor's Medal for outstanding contribution to the community.
