The Senior Regulatory Counsel serves a pivotal role in articulating a compelling strategy and presenting testimony and documentation on the utility’s commercial requirements, capital investments and transition to a low carbon electrical generating system.
Reporting to the Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, the Senior Regulator Counsel will have primary responsibility for developing and maintaining professional relationships with regulators and regulatory staff, customer advocates and other customer/stakeholder representatives, internal clients, customers, and industry groups. They provide legal analysis, counselling, negotiating, pleading and document preparation and review, retaining and directing external consultants and counsel to assist with files a appropriate, working with internal business units and departments on issues relating to regulatory engagement of corporate strategic priorities, developing legal and regulatory strategies with respect to strategic files, and representing NS Power in proceedings before the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board in a wide variety of areas including rates-related matters, capital approval applications, rate design and Board-ordered audits.
The ideal candidate works collaboratively within a team and independently and has at least five-ten years of experience in a private law firm, company and or has practiced administrative law within a government or regulatory context, has a J.D. or LLB and is qualified for membership in the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society. Demonstrated experience in regulatory filings, utilities, and/or energy law is an asset.
