Reporting to the global CEO, the Chief Legal Officer is the head of Cooke’s corporate legal department and is responsible for the global legal affairs of the organization. This role is responsible for providing legal counsel to the global CEO and other senior management executives, leading acquisition projects, along with managing the legal department and supporting all members of the legal team. The CLO must possess strong initiative, as well as excellent management and leadership skills and outstanding business acumen.

This is an opportunity to be involved in a global company that is growing its operations in North America and globally, from right here in Saint John, New Brunswick. The CLO is also responsible for defending and protecting all legal aspects of the company, managing external legal counsel firms, as well as overseeing company contracts and corporate records.

The successful candidate has completed a LLB from a recognized university and is a member in good standing of a provincial bar. A Master of Business Administration (MBA) may be an asset. Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in a legal corporate environment at a senior leadership level including the supervision of lawyers and other legal professionals involved in contractual, corporate, or commercial law. Extensive experience in several corporate acquisitions dealing with complex legal matters. Must be a skilled advisor, negotiator, and deal maker. Experience in manufacturing and processing industry and with tax law may be an asset.
