Chief Operating Officer – Commissionaires Nova Scotia

For more than 80 years, Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS), a not-for-profit organization, has been providing premiere security services to Nova Scotian companies and organizations throughout the province. Historically known for its social mandate to provide meaningful employment to military and police veterans, CNS now employs more than 1300 trained professionals at over 200 sites across the province. CNS is a leader in providing security services including guarding, threat risk assessments, by-law enforcement, police clearances, federally certified unmanned aerial systems, closed circuit television monitoring, record suspension, and US waiver services. Part of Commissionaires Canada, employing over 22,000 security professionals nationwide, CNS is recognized with global International Standardization Organization (ISO) certifications (9001:2015, 14001:2015, and 18788:2015) and accreditations for our exceptional customer service, management standards, and environmental stewardship. Commissionaires Nova Scotia is also this year’s recipient of the Chamber of Commerce ‘Not for Profit Company of the Year’.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key member of CNS’s executive team, responsible for the organization’s operational strategy and execution of exceptional service delivery. The COO will provide strategic guidance on expanding service offerings, addressing operational challenges, and developing and implementing policies and procedures to enhance departmental operations. Taking an analytical approach, the COO oversees the operational budget and drives the purchase of capital equipment to meet operational requirements. Through collaboration with District Managers and Human Resources, the COO ensures that all contracts are appropriately staffed and that all personnel policies and procedures comply with regulations.
As the ideal candidate, you have a relevant degree coupled with at least 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience, highly established business acumen, and exceptional communication skills. You are a collaborative, compassionate and empowering leader with proven experience engaging and managing large teams. Through your ability to build trusted and collegial relationships, you have cultivated an accomplished record of client management and business development experience. Comfortable with a high-paced tempo, you are talented at issues management and encourage a culture of continuous improvement. You are driven by the mission, vision, and the importance of CNS’ work in Nova Scotia. Military, RCMP, security sector, or not-for-profit experience is considered an asset.
