Build Nova Scotia is an agile crown corporation entrusted to build, enhance, and leverage strategic assets and infrastructure within Nova Scotia during a time of unprecedented population and economic growth and investment. With accountability for leveraging over $100 million in government spending and partnerships external to government, Build Nova Scotia focuses on the province’s strategic infrastructure, including healthcare redevelopment, fast-track residences, waterfront and industrial park development, land bank asset management, high-speed Internet, and environmental remediation. Build Nova Scotia brings together project and technical expertise and fosters collaborative partnerships with community, multi-government, and private sector companies to find solutions that build and develop economically vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive communities across Nova Scotia. Build Nova Scotia promotes innovation and sound investment and divestment decisions by utilizing progressive investment, procurement practices, and value-based contracting.

The President & CEO is accountable to the Department of Public Works through a reporting relationship with the Deputy Minister. In collaboration with the Minister, Advisory Board, and central agencies of government, the President & CEO of Build Nova Scotia promotes the province’s vision for economic growth. They are a highly collaborative leader and deliver operational excellence to clients and partners. The President & CEO is a catalyst for building relationships both inside and outside the organization, including a range of business, government, and community partners. They are results-oriented, nimble, and passionate about strategically managing and developing sustainable public infrastructure while leading a high-performing team and instilling an organizational culture of performance excellence and client focus.

The President & CEO is responsible for project oversight, planning, design, implementation, risk assessment, financial oversight, and evaluation of potential investment and partnership opportunities. They lead the assessment, remediation, and redevelopment or divestiture of crown-owned properties to ensure the best and most impactful use.

The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of executive-level leadership experience working with complex organizations, ideally with public sector agencies. They have demonstrated skills in procurement, negotiations, finance, risk, and administrative oversight. A master’s degree in business, finance, engineering, or accounting is considered an asset. The President & CEO has experience in overseeing complex projects, real estate, acquisition or dispositions of assets, procurement, and/or strategic infrastructure planning and/or development. They are adept at structuring, selling, and closing transactions with an in-depth understanding of the client relationship and financing methodologies associated with assets and infrastructure. They have experience in financial and administrative management with sound financial and business acumen. They have experience in negotiation and delivering return on investment. The President & CEO is savvy at managing relationships with public sector organizations and diverse clients and adept at evaluating complex information, relationship dynamics, and emerging business and economic trends. The successful candidate is an excellent communicator and people leader who values their role as a coach, mentor, and ignitor of highly engaged teams. They have demonstrated commitment and experience in working with and building community.
