Invest Nova Scotia has a broad mandate that includes fostering and attracting viable and sustainable economic enterprises; reinforcing local sectors with a comparable advantage based on potential for growth; making investments and providing services that increase innovation and technology adoption; increasing high wage, high growth employment sectors and workforce participation; and collaborating with well-developed ecosystems of innovation-based organizations with a focus on grounding corporations and skilled employees in Nova Scotia.

The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)is accountable to the Department of Economic Development through a reporting relationship with the Deputy Minister of Economic Development. Leading Invest Nova Scotia, the CEO is a catalyst for sustainable economic growth and is responsible for the execution of the corporation’s mandate. They work in collaboration with the Minister, Advisory Board and diverse stakeholders across government and the external community to enable an inclusive, thriving economic ecosystem throughout the province.

The President & CEO is a collaborative leader who inspires and motivates others to achieve the shared vision. They provide exceptional leadership, strategic direction and drive operational excellence to grow and scale businesses. The President & CEO is a catalyst for building relationships both inside and outside the organization, including a range of business, government, and community partners. They are results-oriented, people-focused, and passionate about growing Nova Scotia’s economy. The CEO leads a high-performing team and instills an organizational culture of performance excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, client focus and shared values.

The ideal candidate has at least 10 years executive level leadership within a complex organization and displays polish and gravitas in representing the province around the world. They are experienced in investment management, have business acumen, have negotiated at a high level, and delivered strong return on investment. They are immersed in business and economic issues and have a sophisticated knowledge of global trends. The candidate will have advanced skill in managing relationships with a Board, clients, and diverse stakeholders. They are experienced in creating effective partnerships across organizational departments, between companies, with government, and will demonstrate commitment to implementing the strategic economic policy objectives identified by government.
